Welcome to the New World of Dell EMC
Celebrating and showcasing the strength of the newly integrated organisation, this month’s Dell EMC World was a truly historic event.
With the focus on ‘Digital Transformation’, Arrow ECS chose to showcase the power of large scale data analytics, with a live demonstration that measured ‘how happy’ the event was!
Building on the success of Arrow’s innovative ‘How Happy is London?’ initiative, we gave out 1000 free activity tracking wristbands for attendees to wear as they visited different booths and presentations.
Data from the wristbands was then monitored and reported in real-time, powered by Dell EMC and using Splunk technology to help leverage the data securely.
Why did we make this our focus?
With business transformation powered by data, the increasing gap between an organisation’s ability to not only gather data, but to get meaningful insights from it, is affecting businesses’ ability to innovate and stay competitive.
The latest solutions announced at Dell EMC World help to address these challenges and accelerate business transformation – modernising IT infrastructure so that it’s not only more cost-effective to run and manage, but also faster and more reliable.
Here’s our Top 5 takeaways from the 3 day event, which all play a significant role in supporting big data analytics:
- Announcement of the 14th generation (14G) of the PowerEdge server portfolio
- Launch of the Integrated Data Protection Appliance (IDPA)
- New flash storage announcements, including XtremIO X2, the SC5020 midrange hybrid storage array, and new generations of Unity, Isilon and VMAX
- New flexible, cloud-like consumption models for Dell EMC’s Hyper-Converged Infrastructure (HCI) solutions
- Announcement of the industry’s first 25GbE open networking top-of-rack switches and Dell EMC’s first optimised open networking platform for unified storage network switching
We’ll be exploring each of these announcements in more detail on The Hub over the next couple of weeks – sharing the latest news and key resources with you.
Keep coming back, so you don’t miss out!

Why do you need to ‘get happy’?
With the competitive edge becoming ever thinner, your customers will be looking for more in-depth and powerful analytics that can help them to make better, quicker, more accurate and consistent decisions.
Arrow’s ‘How Happy Is London?’ initiative enables our partners and their customers to see in real time how ‘big data’ can be used to help make important decisions more quickly.
Relating this to business-critical metrics that are relevant in their own environment, they can clearly understand and visualise how things such as what their customers are saying on social media can help them to make better business decisions, when viewed in line with operational and financial information.
Overcoming the fear factor around big data, we’re able to get our partners thinking, for example, about how Twitter data can be analysed alongside information relating to weather and location to help improve customer service and retention.
Where should you start?
Unlocking the potential of their big data should be an easy sell to your customers. According to the latest research, organisations actively using big data have 50% higher revenue growth rates than those who aren’t.

The business potential is too significant for organisations to ignore, so start the conversation with your customers and introduce them to the power of real-time data analytics, using ‘How Happy is London?’ as a hands-on example.
We’ve created a powerpoint slide set that summarises the key points to cover – helping you to add significant business value to your Dell EMC solutions.
